Mutual Aid in the Time of Covid:

This project aims to comprehensively conceptualise, thematically categorise and empirically analyse mutual aid provision in the UK during the Covid-19 pandemic, in order to critically analyse their effectiveness for the recessionary aftermath. The project has three broad lines of questioning. First, how have mutual aid groups been conceptualised before, during and after the pandemic? How have existing groups changed, and how & why have new groups emerged in response to the unprecedented nature of the coronavirus pandemic? Second, the project aims to broadly categorise and sort these groups along conceptual, political and practical contours of inquiry. Third, how have these groups mobilised ‘on-the-ground’ around specific needs, and what have been the challenges, both from without and within, to meeting those needs?
